Description

PX4Flow Optical Sensor

The PX4Flow is an optical flow smart camera for use with the PX4 systems. The PX4 Flow has a native resolution of 752×480 pixels and calculates the optical flow on a 4x binned and cropped area at 250 Hz (bright, outdoors), giving it a very high light sensitivity. Unlike many mouse sensors which have been used for optical flow work, it also works indoors and in low outdoor light conditions without the need for an additional illumination from LED’s, The PX4 Flow operates at 120 Hz when in the dark or indoors. It can be freely reprogrammed to do any other basic, efficient low-level computer vision task.

Source code will be available shortly, comes with planar flow for position hold programmed

Getting there
Support for the PX4Flow sensor in both Arducopter and PX4 firmware is getting there. I've been using it with Arducopter 3.3.2 and the performance is pretty good in the right conditions.

Note as far as I know for both Arducopter and PX4 if you want to use the PX4Flow you will need a separate rangefinder e.g. Lidar Lite as the on-board sonar is too noisy.
