Description

The DJI Zenmuse Z3 is the new 3 axis stablised camera gimbal which has been optimised for still photography, it has a 3.5x optical zoom and a 2x digital magnification zoom, this allows for a total zoom of up to 7x overall. The range of the DJI Zenmuse Z3 is equivalent to the focal ranges of 22-77mm lens. Aperture control ranges from F2.8 wide angle to F5.2 at the long end of the zoom.

The zoom feature is operated via the DJI GO app or direct from the remote controller. DJI has refined and improved image stabilisation, as any camera movement is magnified at the longer end of the zoom lens DJI recommends that video is not taken at the highest 7x zoom, the result could be shaky. This is the result of the extended focal length, which magnifies the image which reduces the performance of stabilisation systems. This shake does not affect still image capture. Still image capture is recommended when at the longeset focus ranges. The Zenmuse Z3 captures images using a CMOS 12MP 1/2.3-inch Sony sensor that can also record 4K video at 30fps and save DNG Raw files. The Z3 camera gimbal weight is 262 grams.

When shooting with the Zenmuse Z3 at the highest possible resolution, i.e. 4K video or 12 megapixel photos, optical zoom can be used, and the zoomed image is instantly visible in the DJI GO live feed. If shooting in 1080p, lossless zoom allows the full 7x of zoom without without sacrificing full-HD image quality

The DJI Zenmuse Z3 camera can be used on the DJI's Inspire 1, Matrice 100 or Matrice 600 drones and the DJI Lightbridge 2 HD Video Downlink dedicated HD video downlink allows for transmission from a distance of up to 3.1 miles (5km) away.

DJI have tested the Zenmuse Z3 camera and the maximum flight times possible they achieved flight times with a DJI Inspire 1 of 19 minutes, 30 minutes when flying a dual-battery equipped Matrice 100 and 39 minutes using the Matrice 600. All flight times vary based on payload and flight conditions and maximum flight times are tested with maximum capacity batteries and no additional payload.s Longer flight times maximise the airtime, increasing the efficiency of industrial and commercial projects while providing photographers with additional time to wait for the right light, compose and capture the perfect shot.
